Dental bonding, also known as tooth bonding, teeth bonding and cosmetic dental bonding, is a 30-60 minute procedure in which a tooth-colored resin material is applied and hardened with a special light to bond it to the tooth in order to restore the tooth or improve a person’s smile. The resins we use have the strength to withstand the stress you place on your teeth in everyday life. Bonding helps restore chipped teeth, fill the spaces between your teeth and cosmetically restore discolored or stained teeth.
Dental bonding is a simple procedure that is usually performed without an anesthetic or a dental injection. In this process, the surface of your tooth is first etched with a special liquid to enhance the adhesive ability of the bonding material. An adhesive material and a composite resin are then applied to the tooth and given the desired shape and finally hardened with the help of safe ultraviolet light. Sometimes, a veneer (custom-shaped tooth covering) may be bonded to the surface of the tooth.
